Breeding

Breeding

Of the listed dairy goat breeds, horned as well as hornless lines exist. When genetically hornless goats mate, a high proportion of their offspring will be infertile. However, it is possible to obtain hornless kids, without the need to dehorn them, by breeding genetically hornless does with a homozygous horned buck. Their offspring should include 25% genetically hornless does that will be available for breeding (math: 50% hornless kids with a 1:1 male-to-female ratio).
